Albert Vila was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain, where he started his musical studies at the ‘Taller de musics’, with Andy Rossety and J.Luis Gamez. He then continued to study Jazz Guitar at the Amsterdam Conservatorium in the Netherlands. There, he studied with Jesse van Ruller, his main teacher for five years. He also attended workshops from other great jazz artist such as J.Scofield, Danilo Perez, Richard Bona, J. Dejohnette, K.Rosenwinkel, M.Stern Meanwhile, Albert Vila developed a talent in composing. In 2004, he was awarded with the first prize for Best Composition in the Dutch Jazz competition for his original ‘Gym-jam’. In 2005, he studied at the Manhattan School of music in New York with Rodney Jones, . In the summer of 2006 he decided to move back to his homeground Barcelona, to start a new project: the Albert Vila Quintet. With this quintet, he won in Donosti “Debajazz contest” in 2007. In the autumn of 2007, Fresh Sound Records has released the debut album of the Albert Vila Quintet: “Foreground Music”. “Foreground Music” has ten original songs, written by Albert Vila. The CD is distributed throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. His last work is called « tactile » and includes seven new songs recorded in 2010 with his new quintet. Think of an hour long musical journey, inviting your ears to a new sensation at every note that passes by. Tactile, the new C.D. of Albert Vila, is just that. It’s carefully constructed composition moves from intimate to energetic, from melodic to rhytmic, from contemplation to outburst – travelling through a wide range of musical landscapes along the way. Hard to grasp, exciting to listen. Albert Vila is one of Spain’s best jazz guitarplayers, and with this second album we’ll certainly discover why his personal way to write and play will not leave anyone indifferent. Soon he will be presenting his album in Germany, London , Belgium and Spain . He is also involved in two other projects: the Couch Potatoes ( www.myspace.com/loscouchpotatoes) and Luna y Vila duo (www.myspace.com/lunayvila)
