Bill Carrothers Trio

Bill Carrothers, piano
Drew-Gress, doublebass
Dré Pallemaerts, drums

The American pianist Bill Carrothers is a quietly unconventional thinker. Called the « pianist of the 21st century » by the French newspaper Libération, he made his entry into the Penguin Guide To Jazz as « a class act, already endowed with a formidable breadth of experience, and able to fit in with most contemporary jazz situations. » When he first appeared on the New York jazz scene, he was immediately celebrated as a major new discovery. Bill Carrothers often approaches the interpretation of jazz standards in an intensely exciting way and from an intriguingly different angle than most other musicians. His brand new CD « Castaways » is quite impressive, as the trio plays with a special feeling for atmospheric depth. Bill Carrothers and friends are performing a music that renews and reinvents. According to the Chicago Tribune, « the relentlessly inventive pianist Bill Carrothers’ harmonic sophistication has to be heard to be believed. »

Dre Pallemaerts plays the drums, teaches at the « CNSM » in Paris-France and at the « Lemmens Instituut » in Leuven-Belgium, works as a sound-engineer, creates electronic music, composed and recorded his new cd « Pan Harmonie » featuring Mark Turner (sax), Stéphane Belmondo (trumpet), Bill Carrothers (piano) and Jozef Dumoulin (rhodes). Played over 27 years in the international jazz scene with many artists like Toots Thielemans, Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Bob Brookmeyer, Philip Catherine, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Wintston, Tom Harrell, Art Farmer, James Williams, Ernestine Anderson,… Is currently a member of the Belmondo-Yusef Lateef sextet, Belmondo quintet, Bert Joris quartet, Baptiste Trotignon-David El Malek quartet, Andy Scherrer sextet, Erwin Vann’s « let’s call Ed », Robin Verheyen quartet, Bill Carrothers trio,.
