Chad McCullough Quartet
Chad McCullough (USA): Trumpet
Bram Weijters, piano
Piet Verbist, bass
Lionel Beuvens, drums
When the world locked down in mid-March of 2020, American trumpeter Chad McCullough and Belgian pianist Bram Weijters were three days away from a 17-concert tour, premiering the epic 25-movement Pendulum duo album. It made the initial impact of the global pandemic all the more devastating. During the lockdown, McCullough was able to release Forward internationally on the Outside In Music label. This tour will present this music to European audiences, and reprise the synergistic relationships McCullough has forged with the outstanding Belgian pianist, bassist Verbist over the past 12 years, and adding in nearly a decade of playing with drummer Lionel Beuvens. While the pandemic delayed the timing of the release concerts, it’s also going to make the reunion all the more meaningful – and the music will no doubt reflect that.
Heralded for his “solos of mercurial poetry and high craft.” (Chicago Tribune) Chicago-based trumpeter/composer Chad McCullough is active throughout the world. Dan McClenaghan writes, “He is a rare instrumentalist who makes each note sound as if it were imbued with a deeper meaning. Certainly a player with great chops, his approach is one that is measured and deliberate, often introspective, sometimes gorgeously melancholic, and one that employs a continuity of mood and atmosphere.”
