Eve Beuvens, piano solo
Eve Beuvens’s first idea was to play the bass when she was 13. But she chose the piano because it seemed to require less strength! She was directly attracted to jazz. She then studied under Nathalie Loriers.
After a degree in philosophy, she entered the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel. She studied with Diederick Wissels, John Ruocco, Kris Defoort, Garrett List and John Taylor (as a Erasmus student in Cologne). She graduated in 2005.
She released her first quartet album « Noordzee » with Joachim Badenhorst, Yannick Peeters and Lionel Beuvens on the Igloo label in 2009. Her first opus revealed a cliché-free composer and a multifaceted pianist. The music has surprised critics by its freshness and fluidity, and she charmed audiences with her poetry and intensity. The band played in the Jazz Tour of the Lundis d’Hortense in 2009, at the « 12 points » festival in Norway in 2010, Jazz Lab tour and « Jazz Ahead » in Germany in 2011.
After playing extensively with her trio and quartet, Eve has participated in several projects of very different styles.
She collaborates with the Swedish saxophonist Mikael Godée with whom she plays in duo and in a quartet with a Swedish rhythm section. The group has toured in Sweden and Belgium and has released « MEQ » on the label Spookhuis in 2013. These experiences have helped to turn Eve into an increasingly complete, determined and convincing pianist.
In 2013, on the occasion of a carte blanche for the Gaume Jazz Festival, she created the Heptatomic septet. The Group brought together Laurent Blondiau, Gregoire Tirtiaux, Sylvain Debaisieux Benjamin Sauzereau, Manolo Cabras and Lionel Beuvens around an original repertoire made to measure! Their first album « Heptatomic » was released in September 2015 on the Igloo label.
