Mélanie Isaac

For her second album, En attendant Nico, Mélanie Isaac returns to the simplicity that marked her early steps. It’s a return to essentials, where songs, voice, and lyrics take center stage, carried by a narrative strength in which every second claims its autobiographical weight. Far from contemporary norms, the musical setting is organic, alive, and luminous: nine tracks recorded, produced, and mixed at Wood Studio in Chênée with Maxime Wathieu—songs whose sincerity disarms. Because the Ardennes-born singer never yields to the temptation of ease, choosing instead the raw honesty of piano, drums, and guitar, where voice and melody reign supreme.

After L’inachevée, a notable EP (First Prize Franc’OFF at the Francofolies de Spa), and Surface, a debut album acclaimed by critics (and awarded a “Coup de cœur” by public Francophone media for its single Paradis Nord), En attendant Nico feels like a journal—a logbook from a woman whose sensitivity clashes with a society searching for meaning (Elle cherche le A), who resists the sirens of the times (Le camp et la couleur), and favors poetic clarity over prefabricated discourse (Le sublime ordinaire). Seemingly reconciled with her past (Le Tilleul, Une fleur sur le piano) and ready to confront her ghosts (Je te garderai, Adieu je reste), Mélanie Isaac sketches a way out of our bruised souls—immediate and accessible. What changed? Perhaps the birth of her daughter, whom she carried during the recording sessions, and who gave her name to the title track of this second album: En attendant Nico. »
