PETE ROBBINS TRANSATLANTIC QUARTET
Pete Robbins (NYC) – alto saxophone, compositions
Mikkel Ploug (DK) – guitar
Simon Jermyn (IRL/NYC) – electric bass
Sean Carpio (IRL) – drums
Entrance fee: 15€
The guys from New York are back! A month after Jermyn/Ploug NYC Quartet played, these fellas are back in another combo around PETE ROBBINS.
This quartet tours Europe extensively, playing a mix of my older and newer pieces. Musically, the focus is less on exploring the details of the harmonic and rhythmic elements of Robbins’ compositions in a clear and convincing manner. Their first album, « Live in Basel », will be released on Hate Laugh Music on February 14, 2012.
BEST OF 2010: « siLENT Z – live » (Big City)
BEST OF 2008: « Do The Hate Laugh Shimmy » (Blogcritics.org, Capitol Times, Hot House Magazine)
BEST OF 2006: « Waits and Measures » (Furious.com, Jazzhouse.ch)
« [Pete Robbins] leads…an ambitious ensemble that combines…the melodic punch of rock…[with] a cool tone and a thoughtfully off kilter sensibility. …Mr. Robbins plays with coolness as well as confidence. »
(Nate Chinen, New York Times)
« This guy rules. … He’s already amassed a ballpark-sized fan base. … There’s no telling where he’ll go. … Pete’s officially moved in, and the downtown scene couldn’t be more pumped. … This alto saxophonist kicks ass atmospherically. »
(Dan King, The Village Voice)
« definitely one to watch »
(Selwyn Harris, Jazzwise Magazine, UK)
