Shonchi (aka Sanchita Islam): MAD MUSIC performance
Shonchi is known internationally as a visual artist, writer, film maker and mental health campaigner. She is also a model and a former beauty queen, winning Miss Bengali 1994!
To date, she has published 10 books, produced 16 films and participated in over 100 exhibitions, both solo and group, around the world, she has been running www.pigmentexplosion.com a mon-profit organisation for the last 20 years. She has received commissions and funding mainly from the Arts Council and British council.
In 2019 Shonchi signed with Pulse Soundworks in Malaysia and in the last four years produced over 500 pieces of music, which will be released this year under the banner of Mental Music designed to ameliorate people in mental pain. She has already released one album Denial available on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/7lGrwaOUueFIiusqyKtVqe?si=PSH5FZvKT2yfrIUTtKNqfw, and you can hear some of her music Shonchi: soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/shonchi she will be releasing her second album under Pulse Soundworks in 2020. Shonchi started to make music after she recalled being sexually abused aged 43, since she recalled her trauma she can now play piano, keyboards, acoustic, electric, bass guitar and harmonium. She makes all the music in Logic and produces it all on her own. She calls her music mental music designed to ameliorate mental pain. To date, she has performed in Malaysia, Singapore, London, Berlin and Brussels.
When you see Shonchi perform it is something different, something other, Shonchi is a complete artist. She likes to stay underground and wage her insurrection through her art.
