HUGO RACE feat. CATHERINE GRAINDORGE
HUGO RACE is a prolific performer, musician, writer and producer, his most recent release being the critically acclaimed solo album ‘Fatalists’, released worldwide. Hugo founded the seminal Australian cult band The Wreckery in 1985, which recently reunited for the release of the retrospective album ‘Past Imperfect’. Born in Melbourne, Hugo was first introduced to the international stage as a founding member of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds.
Over the last 25 years Hugo has lived in Italy, France, Germany, UK and the USA. With his international True Spirit collective he has produced 14 Hugo Race & True Spirit albums, the latest, ’53rd State’ released in Australia and Europe in 2008 to rave reviews, followed in 2009 by the album ‘Live in Wolow Jail’, recorded in a maximum security penitentiary in Poland.
Hugo’s various Helixed productions and collaborations number another ten albums spread over several projects and continents including; ‘BKO’ by Dirtmusic (recorded in Bamako, Africa, a cross-cultural collaboration with the Malian Tuareg group Tamikrest); the French-American band Lilium; and the Sicilian project Sepiatone. Hugo’s 2010 album ‘Between Hemispheres’ is an instrumental mix of African instruments and edgy electronica.
