Steven Brown Trio (Tuxedomoon)

Live Session

Round About Five – 23 June 2024 at 5pm

L’Archiduc vibrated to the sounds of avant-garde legend Steven Brown Trio ! Steven Brown, Luc van Lieshout and Benjamin Glibert.

The Tuxedomoon co-founder delivered an unforgettable performance, blending post-punk, electronics, and jazz in our iconic Art Deco setting. From San Francisco to Brussels, Steven’s musical journey has spanned decades and continents. We were honored to host this pioneer of experimental music.
Thanks to all who joined us for this extraordinary night!

Born in Illinois, Steven Brown moved to San Francisco in the mid ‘70s, where he founded Tuxedomoon with Blaine L.Reininger. The band recorded two emblematic albums for The Residents’ label Ralph Records, then left the toxic atmosphere of Ronald Reagan’s America in the early 1980s, wandered around Europe, and settled in Brussels for twelve years. 13 more Tuxedomoon albums followed, as well as numerous tours that took Tuxedomoon around the globe. Thanks to their ability to crystallize a certain dark and romantic zeitgeist, and the originality of their music (which incorporated and transcended post-punk, rock, electronics, minimal music, classical, jazz, Gypsy music and more, Tuxedomoon quickly became one of the most influential bands of the decade.

Meanwhile, Steven Brown developed a career as a solo artist: he released over twenty albums under his name (including his collaborations with Blaine Reininger and with Benjamin Lew), and formed several bands after moving to Mexico in 1993: Nine Rain (with whom he recorded seven albums), Ensemble Kafka, and Cinema Domingo Orchestra. Steven has regularly composed music for films, theatre, dance and fashion shows: his and Tuxedomoon’s music appeared in works by Maurice Béjart, Thierry Smits, Wim Wenders, Patrice Chéreau and many more.

In his new live set, Steven Brown performs intimate concerts centered around songs from his brand-new album on Crammed Discs, as well as music from his previous solo albums (Brown Reads Keats, Brown Plays Tenco, Half Out), and some songs from the repertoire of Tuxedomoon, the legendary cult band he co-founded at the end of the seventies.

Nicolas Ker feat Arielle Dombasle

Live Session

Nicolas Ker’s War over Brussels on February 6th: Romanticism will never exhaust romanticism. With the special participation of Arielle Dombasle. To leave a memorable impression on the audience, a concert must be a unique moment. Nicolas Ker, a zany musician, will perform at L’Archiduc in Brussels. As a guest star, Arielle Dombasle, for whom he wrote and composed the album « La Rivière Atlantique ».

Nicolas Ker’s reputation precedes him: unmanageable, funny, brilliant, unbearable, the one known as the singer of Poni Hoax is not the type to play it easy. King of the uncontrolled skid, the musician usually goes in all directions, except the right one. He has set himself the challenge of running the Brussels Marathon with 6 concerts in 2 days, most of them being secret and full of surprises. The finish will be at L’Archiduc, where he will perform part of his repertoire, including songs from his solo album « Les Faubourgs de l’Exil », a pure marvel. Arielle Dombasle will be the « guest star » for a few light music titles that the two artists deliberately make dark, striving to make them evolve with each appearance on stage. Together or separately, their leitmotif is to avoid boredom and routine. When they perform, anything is possible, especially the improbable!

Venomous2000 feat Sensey Shogun

Live Session

30/07/2016

Born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey, Venomous2000 has been a positive force in Hip-Hop culture for over 20 years! Venomous2000 was introduced to Hip-Hop in the 80s through artists such as KRS-ONE, RAKIM, MC Lyte, and Public Enemy. His cousin, Irocdis, co-founder of the group Deadly Snakes, signed to Tommy Boy Records, greatly inspired Venomous, who learned music by his side. He spent long hours in the studio with the Deadly Snakes and accompanied them to their concerts. From there comes his name, Venomous, in line with his cousin’s approach, who advocated fighting against negative music (the poison) with anti-venom (positivity).

Venomous2000 is now focused on his solo career, in total independence. He produces his records, makes his music videos, and organizes his concerts. This approach is due to necessity but also to the desire for freedom, a spiritual quest that gives birth to human and generous music.

He has now completed many solo projects with features from Inspectah Deck, John Robinson, El Da Sensei, Cymarshal Law, LIFElong, Smif N Wessun, to name a few. Venomous2000 completed his first tour in Europe and Canada in 2012 with « So fresh & So Hip-Hop » and was honored to share the stage with Immortal Technique, Chip-Fu, Keith Murray, and Afu-Ra. Thanks to this, he established numerous connections in Europe, which allowed him to do several international tours in 2014 and 2015.

His style is rooted in the tradition of true « Boom Bap » Hip-Hop with a conscious and positive message, making him a worthy heir to KRS-ONE, Black Thought (The Roots), Common, Mos Def, Jurassic 5, etc. Venomous2000 carries his name « Ultra Emcee » (master of ceremonies) wonderfully. He is a real phenomenon on stage, very interactive with the audience. His principle is to always give his maximum in live performances to create a moment of sharing and memorable pleasure!
