From Monday, June 17 to Saturday, June 22, Patrick and Jan will take up residence at L’Archiduc in Brussels with a number of musician friends. With daily concerts at 6 PM from Monday to Friday. On Saturday, June 22, you can attend the last La Vie est Riguelle, followed by a concert. Come to L’Archiduc on time, as places are limited!

« Daags na de uitbundige drankuitspatting in L’Archiduc in Brussel ter ere van de uitreiking van De Gouden Uil, belde ik dit etablissement met de vraag of de poetsmevrouw misschien tussen de lege flessen, de glasscherven, de overige resten van losbandigheid een bril had aangetroffen, te weten mijn bril, zonder welke ik niet in staat ben mijn vak uit te oefenen?
Neen, op zo’n prothese was men niet gestoten. Zulks speet de archiduc bijzonder, naar hij mij hoffelijk meldde, maar als ik hem mijn naam en telefoonnummer wilde dicteren, – misschien werd het ding toch nog uit een der nog niet opgedweilde vennen verschaald bier opgedregd…
Zit mij ooit iets mee, heb ik ooit geluk?
Neen. Nooit.
Bril weg. Uil-geld weg. Geen liquiditeiten voor aanschaf van een nieuwe bril. Vrouw kwaad.
Er braken chagrijnige tijden aan, waarin zelfverwijt en wroeging mij pijnigden als door mijn ziel priemende braadspitten.
En toen ging de telefoon. De archiduc persoonlijk meldde zich. Er was in zijn staminee een brillendoos gevonden. In een verstolen donker hoekje waar de poetsdame niet dagelijks kwam met haar zwabber en emmer sop. Kon ik hem de doos en de inhoud ervan beschrijven, zodat hij zekerheid verkreeg dat het gevonden voorwerp het door mij gezochte was?
Een zwarte brillendoos, zei ik, die men kan openen door het sterk verende deksel omhoog te klappen. Daarin ligt de bril met de glazen naar beneden, de veren daaroverheen gevouwen als de pootjes van een overleden lieveherenbeest. De bril ligt opgebaard op een wit, flanellen doekje, waarop in groene letters Pearle Opticiens is te lezen.
Dit alles, bevestigde de archiduc, komt inderdaad overeen met het object dat ik thans in handen houd. Maar behalve de bril bevat de doos nňg iets: een deels gescheurd stuk papier dat zo stevig in elkaar was gerold dat het er uitzag als een vezelig stukje touw. Ik vond het onder de binnenrand van de doos…
Een krantenknipseltje?
Neen, niet een krantenknipseltje, zei de archiduc. Een document met geldwaarde…

Founded by a certain Madame Alice in 1937, the venue was taken over in 1953 by jazz pianist Stan Brenders, who turned it into a temple to jazz. In 1985, it was sold to Nathalie and Jean-Louis Hennart, who made it the starting point for the renaissance of the Dansaert district.
Its interior decoration, in the purest Art Deco style, was designed by architect F. Van Ruyskenvelde. The 1985 renovation was entrusted to Pierre Bourgeois. The dark wood panelling, thick velvet upholstery, elegant chrome fittings and indirect lighting create a cosy atmosphere, particularly pleasing when the blue notes of the grand piano, the focal point of the place, ring out. Sleek banquettes and armchairs welcome guests either on the ground floor or on the mezzanine. Refined beers, wines and cocktails are served from the rosewood bar. L’Archiduc is one of a kind, carrying on the fine tradition of concerts and shows.
